Privacy Policy

WeatherAhead ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use the WeatherAhead mobile and web application ("the Service").

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account information (email address, display name) provided during registration
• Truck profile data (trailer type, load weight) you enter voluntarily
• Hazard reports including text descriptions and optional photographs
• Payment information processed securely by Stripe (we do not store card numbers)

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• GPS / Location data: Used to display your position on the map, fetch local weather, and identify nearby hazards. Location data is processed in real time and is not stored on our servers beyond what is necessary for push notification proximity matching.
• Device type, operating system, and browser type for compatibility purposes
• App usage analytics (page views, feature interactions) via anonymized analytics
• Server logs including IP address, request timestamps, and error traces

2.3 Push Notification Data

If you enable push notifications, we store your push subscription endpoint and your last known GPS coordinates (updated when the app is active) to deliver proximity-based hazard alerts. This data is deleted when you disable notifications or delete your account.

• To provide and improve the Service
• To display personalized weather risk scores based on your truck profile
• To show your GPS position on the map and fetch local weather data
• To send push notifications for nearby hazards (only if you opt in)
• To process subscription payments via Stripe
• To moderate user-generated content and enforce our Terms of Service
• To send transactional emails (account confirmation, subscription receipts)
• To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.

Location access is required for core features (map display, local weather, nearby hazards). Location data is used only in real time within the app and for push notification proximity matching. We do not build location history profiles or share precise location data with third parties except as described in Section 5.

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. The app will continue to function with reduced functionality (manual location entry) if location access is denied.

We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• OpenWeatherMap: Your GPS coordinates are sent to OpenWeatherMap's API to fetch weather data. Subject to openweathermap.org/privacy-policy.
• Mapbox: Map tile requests include your viewport coordinates. Subject to mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
• Stripe: Payment processing. We share only what is required to process transactions. Subject to stripe.com/privacy.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

Hazard reports you submit (including location, description, and photos) are visible to all logged-in users of the Service. Do not include personal information in hazard reports. Photos are stored on secure cloud storage and are accessible via the report for up to 3 hours (the report expiry period) unless extended by community upvotes.

• Hazard reports: automatically deleted 3 hours after creation (or upon manual deletion)
• Account data: retained while your account is active
• Payment records: retained as required by Stripe and applicable tax law
• Server logs: retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging
• Push notification subscriptions: deleted when notifications are disabled or account is deleted

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure session cookies (HttpOnly, SameSite=None, Secure), hashed credentials, and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Opt out of push notifications at any time in app settings
• Withdraw consent for location access via device settings

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the App with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
